As the pandemic continues, many homeowners are looking to upgrade their temporary work-from-home and virtual learning setups. The past several months of kitchen tables, beds and couches have taken their toll and it’s time to settle in for the long haul. Check out our tips below on how to get creative with maximizing the space in your home!

1. Declutter and Organize

The first step in creating more space in your home is to declutter and get organized! And what better time to get started than the beginning of a new year? Start by working on one room at a time, thoughtfully considering what items to keep, toss or donate. Make sure everything has a “home”, which will make it easier to put things back where they belong.

2. Add Built-In Storage

Kids rooms aren’t just for sleeping anymore! Children’s rooms should be utilized for learning, playing and quiet-time. Maximize space by adding built-in storage, desks, bulletin boards, wall organizers, or other accessories to keep surrounding spaces (and your dining table) free of clutter.

3. Convert a Closet Into a Home Office

This couple created a dedicated workspace in their primary bedroom, by making a fold out desk in their PAX wardrobe. This is a great solution for couples living in condos or small spaces with no additional room for a home office.

4. Use a Room Partition

If two or more people share a room for their virtual learning or home office setup, consider using a room partition. A room divider can help create more privacy and block out any distractions in your learning/working space. Throw on a pair of noise cancelling headphones and you’re all set!

5. Upgrade Your Home Office

If you’re lucky enough to have a dedicated room for your home office, consider making some small, but impactful upgrades. You’ll want good lighting to prevent eye strain, a supportive chair for your back, simple storage solutions to stay organized and a few nice extras like house plants and decor - just because!
